🧠 Superintendent’s Message: Supporting Our Children’s Mental Health

Dear Red Rider Families,

At Orrville City Schools, we believe that a child’s mental health is just as important as their academics. With so many students using social media daily, it’s vital that we stay engaged in how these platforms impact their well-being.

Why it matters:

While social media can connect kids with friends and opportunities, too much screen time—or unmonitored use—can increase stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem.

How you can help at home:

·         âś” Check in on what your child is viewing and who they’re interacting with.

·         âś” Set limits on screen time, especially before bed

·         âś” Encourage conversations—let them know it’s safe to share concerns

·         âś” Notice changes in mood, sleep, or friendships that may signal a struggle

Together, as families, schools, and a community, we can help our children use technology in positive and healthy ways, ensuring they feel supported every step of the way.

With gratitude,

Dr. David M. Toth
Superintendent, Orrville City Schools

Two-Hour Delayed Start for Staff Professional Development

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We want to let you know that Orrville City Schools will have a two-hour delayed start on the following dates:

  • Friday, September 26

  • Friday, December 5

  • Friday, March 6

  • Friday, April 24

On these mornings, buses will run on a two-hour delay, and classes will begin two hours later than the regular schedule.

These delayed starts are important because they provide our teachers and staff with dedicated time for professional development. This training enables us to collaborate, learn new strategies, and refine our skills, allowing us to continue providing the very best education and support for our students.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we work to invest in our staff, which ultimately benefits every student in our district.

Sincerely,

Dr. David M. Toth
